Upcycled Leather Belt

I visit my local Goodwill store probably every other week. I usually check their watches, bags, belts & books. I’m not really into clothes there, unless its a neat fabric that I can cut apart for something else (like a pink flamingo shirt that I found at another local thrift store for $1.91 that I cut up for dotees and the buttons for paper crafts.)   I was into looking for leather belts with nice designs or embossing, when I found this belt:

After seeing some interesting swaps on swap-bot.com for 1 inch bracelets or upcycled thrift store finds, I thought this belt had a future as something else. So after having it at home for a few weeks, my March creative inspiration hit me finally for this belt.   Took not even an hour to create 4 bracelets out of this 1 belt. My neighbors modeled the final creations (my wrists are all scratched up thanks to my kitty Delilah!)

Spring Arts Guild March 2011 meeting – make your own stamps!

Oh, this is the coolest thing! The instructor, Cathy Prieto-Smith is such a GREAT teacher! So informative, so patient! She showed us the easiest way to make our own stamps with photopolymer paper.  I think we all got a work out on our arms from scrubbing the part we didn’t need off. Yes, now this a new addiction I have. I want to make more of my own custom stamps!!  I better hurry to purchase more of the photopolymer paper this month before my promise for April starts!

Breast Cancer Awareness ATC

Breast Cancer Awareness is very close to my heart. I lost a dear sweet friend to this horrible disease in 2008, and her sister in 2010. I have a good friend at work who thankfully is a 10yr survivor! We participate in the Susan G. Komen Race For the Cure each year here in Houston to help raise money to find a cure. Our team fundraises at work through bake sales, raffle baskets and candy sales.  This disease is something that has touched everyone in this world – just think of the “six degrees of separation’.    Please, always help this cause, because you just never know if you or someone you love will be affected by it.

Been making cards lately

I have totally replenished my stock in cards, which has now caused, card burn-out. My A.D.D. has set in & I need to move on to another craft for these next few weeks. Looks like I’m heading back over to the jewelry side of my craft room. But here is just a few of the MANY cards I’ve made this week (I can’t spoil it by showing yall ALL of my cards because some of yall might be recipients of them!) 🙂

Slowly but surely Crafting each day of March

I have been keeping my pledge to craft each day of March. As I stated before, I can’t post photos each day, so here are just a few cards that I have made these first 7 days of the month. I have made more, but they are for swaps that I will be mailing out, so I will add those after I mail them to my swap partners.

I picked up this package of embellishments at Michael’s on clearance for I think under $1.50. I’m so happy I picked up two of these little bird packs, because they are just the cutest little things!   I couldn’t just plop them on card fronts, of course I added my FAVORITE craft item, STICKLES.  It makes them so much cuter!!!

Jewelry Color Challenge -Green & Black bracelet

I am the host on swap-bot for the monthly Jewelry Color Challenge. This was one of my projects I made for one of my partners. The colors for the month were black & green and it had to be a bracelet. I figure its nicer to keep all the jewelry item the same so someone doesn’t make a bracelet & get a pair of earrings or something along that line.

Check out the group Jewelry, Jewelry, Jewelry on swap-bot for the monthly color challenges (as well as other great swaps).  If you join the group, tell them you heard about the group from leecytx!!

DIY seed packets from Sizzix dies

I REALLY dislike hand cutting out things & even MORE can’t stand measuring. Thus the reason I LOVE my Sizzix Big Shot & clearance dies from Sizzix clearance shop.   I found a mini envelope die and the scallop envelope die (I think that might be through Stampin Up!) that have saved me from cutting out envelopes for seed packets.

These were made with the mini envelope die & are just a perfect little size since most seed packets have such wasted space.
